SEMARANG, 19 August 2023 – Commissioned by the ASEAN Member States with support from Australia for ASEAN Futures Initiative (Aus4ASEAN Futures) – Economic and Connectivity (ECON), the ASEAN Tariff Finder was launched on 19 August on the sidelines of the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Meeting – ASEAN Business Advisory Council Consultation.
ASEAN Tariff Finder is an online platform designed to support traders to maximise benefits from concluded or upgraded Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), including the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), ASEAN+1 FTAs, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and bilateral FTAs concluded by the ASEAN Member States. The ASEAN Tariff Finder is now ready to support users who wish to explore the markets of more than 160 countries.
At the launch, Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn highlighted, “This is a tool to help businesses, especially Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) get accurate and constantly updated information on customs and trade regulations, rules of origin and market access requirements – saving you from the stress of uncertainty and long searches. The tool is absolutely free for all traders located within the region.”
Minister of Trade of Indonesia Dr. (H.C.) Zulkifli Hasan added, “With this search engine, traders will save time and resources in their transactions since all trade-related information they need is now readily available on the website. Using the ASEAN Tariff Finder, traders can simply enter the country of origin, the destination, and the product of interest. Immediately, they have the commodity code and insights into tariffs, rules of origin, and customs and trade regulations for destination countries.”
Chair of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arsjad Rasjid stated, “The ASEAN Tariff Finder is a leap forward in facilitating seamless business activity across our region. This platform revolutionises the way we access and navigate tariffs, non-tariff measures, rules of origin, and trade agreements within ASEAN. It is a valuable resource for businesses and underscores ASEAN’s commitment to empowering MSMEs, bolstering economic cooperation, and embracing digitalisation.”
In 2022, the intra-ASEAN trade recorded USD 857 billion. The ASEAN Tariff Finder, timely introduced at this juncture, is expected to further boost growth in trade for the ASEAN Member States and enhance regional supply chain resilience.
